Summertime Classics
CAM is delighted to be part of this fabulous concert in Gloucestershire of Summertime Classics on 11 June…
The programme features beautiful music for cello and piano in a programme to include music by Schubert, Fauré, Bach, Vaughan Williams, Lili Boulanger & Saint-Saéns, as well as music by Australian composers Wendy Hiscocks and Arthur Benjamin.
The concert will be performed by cellist Coral Lancasteraccompanied by composer Wendy Hiscocks, and with solo pieces for piano by Nicholas Ashton.
Songline is one of Wendy Hiscock’s most recent pieces written in 2018 for cello and piano. It is inspired by Bruce Chatwin’s book The Songlines which reached readers far and wide. The composer’s response was to create her own songline of the Illawarra region in New South Wales where she was born. As part of the journey, musical reference is made to key sites such as the shoreline, Lake Illawarra and the two mountains dominating the escarpment.
Watch Wendy’s beautiful video of the piece:
‘absolutely compelling and very powerful and atmospheric – the highlight of the concert.’
