The Flame

for violin & piano

LISTEN

ABOUT

Composed at a time when the composer fell in love with the writings of Rabindranath Tagore. A single line from the Bengali poet: ‘What is this unseen flame of darkness whose sparks are the stars?’ merged in her mind’s eye with a choreography for a solo female dancer who is the flame; at first she awakes and stretches; the embers glow before the flickering of a flame catches on in a wild, capricious dance.
