Dry White Fire

for violin & piano

ABOUT

Mary Gilmore’s poem ‘An Aboriginal Simile’ conjures up the baked, parched earth and the grass “like a dry white fire” before the arrival of the much needed rain. These images are reinterpreted musically in this love song between the earth and the rain for violin and piano.

Australian violinist Anna da Silva Chen with the composer

‘Two exceptional pieces by Wendy Hiscocks are, Caprice, a stunningly pictorial description of a bird in flight for solo violin, and Dry White Fire for violin with piano, based on an Australian Aboriginal poem concerning drought.’
