Word was out that the stupendous Wagnerian opera singer Elizabeth Connell was looking for an Australian Christmas song for her 1994 Wigmore Hall recital. David Martin’s brilliant text about a family Christmas in the still heat of an Australian summer fitted her specifications perfectly.
