Caprice II: Dragonfly

for solo violin

VIDEO

Madeleine Mitchell  premieres Caprice II: Dragonfly in London on 6  March 2025

ABOUT

As with the first Caprice for solo violin (1990), Caprice II: Dragonfly is also inspired by winged creatures. The first Caprice depicted the flight of a small bird, and Caprice II focuses on the dragonfly. With their eye-catching bejewelled colours, the composer viewed the dragonfly as exotic and wild, so the music is to be played with a gypsy-like touch, with the gradual unfolding of a long melodic line increasing in fire.
