British violinist Madeleine Mitchell teams up with New Zealand pianist Stephen de Pledge to celebrate International Women’s Day. Madeleine has championed Wendy Hiscocks’ violin solo Caprice for a number of years, and the composer has marked their longstanding musical collaboration by creating a second caprice for Madeleine to introduce to audiences for the first time.
An adaptation of a viola work by Thea Musgrave is included in the programme, as well as a previous commission from Errollyn Wallen. Other music in this concert finds representation among Madeleine’s extensive commercial recordings; this includes the Grace Williams Violin Sonata, a British Music Society recording released on the Naxos label, focused on Williams’ chamber music played by members of the London Chamber Ensemble of which Madeleine is Artistic Director.
