Purely by chance, Hiscocks’ String Quartet loosely follows a pattern of the four seasons. The autumnal Navaho Sandstone was the first movement to be conceived with ‘Summer Air’ added after the premiere of the other three movements at the Amadeus Festival in Geneva. ‘Summer Air’ can also be performed alone.
