Celebrating Australian Composers in the USA!
CAM director and composer Wendy Hiscocks presents a programme of music by fellow Australians
John Carmichael and Douglas Knehans as well as her own music too…
Award-winning composer Douglas Knehans was born in 1957. He is perhaps best known for his orchestral works and chamber music. The study of time and memory, human emotion and the natural world are the driving influences on his creativity.
Mist Waves focuses on land-based clouds and its ability to form unpredictable textures and waves. Loosely based on a chaconne with repeated reference to the opening eight bars, the music reflects the changing patterns of human consciousness.

Born in 1930, John Carmichael studied in Paris and London before embarking on a colourful career encompassing music therapy; he also travelled as an accompanist for an international Spanish Dance company Eduardo Y Navarra.
Works for the piano are central to Carmichael’s output, with Concierto Folklorico for piano and orchestra one of his best known compositions. Prominent soloists such as James Galway have championed his Phoenix Flute Concerto, with John Wallace more recently performing and recording his Trumpet Concerto.
