When the conductor Graham Buckland commissioned The Unheeded Pageant for the Kallmünz Festival, he requested string solos and a work simple enough to be prepared on a single rehearsal by young players of undergraduate level. A Tagore poem of the same title provided the focus with themes for dance, the wind and flight.
