Wendy Hiscocks Summer Air Premiere

The Callia Quartet perform the World Premiere of Summer Air by Wendy Hiscocks as part of their ‘Back in Bloomsbury’ concert. This is the final movement of four, representing the four seasons. 

Wendy Hiscock’s string quartet started life as three movements which premiered in 2001, each inspired by a piece of art or a photograph. This final movement ‘Summer Air’ was then added to provide some contrast against the relative density of the other movements. Reflecting on a magical moment when the composer saw insects and seeds floating in a meadow in a soft summer light. This added a final, fourth movement to the quartet to form the four seasons.
